Saint's Corner: St. Louise de Marrilac

Name: Louise de Marillac
Birth & Death: August 15 1591 - March 15 1660
Feast Day: March 15
Country of Origin: France
History: Born out of wedlock, she was cared for by her father, a widower in the French aristocracy. When her father remarried his wife refused to acknowledge Louise and was educated at the royal monastery. She attempted to become a contemplative nun but was rejected, possibly because of poor health. Her family convinced her to marry and she was a devoted wife and mother until the death of her husband. She was counselled by St. Francis de Sales and later St. Vincent de Paul became her confessor and her guide. She and St. Vincent de Paul would go on to found the Daughters of Charity.
