Saints Corner: St. Frances Xavier Cabrini

Name: Frances Xavier Cabrini
Birth & Death: 15 July 1850 - 22 December 1917
Feast Day: 13 November
Country of Origin: Italy
History: Founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Born to a wealthy family, she was in frail health for most of her life. As soon as she was old enough she attempted to join religious life but her health caused her to be rejected. She became a teacher until she was asked to take over an orphanage. Several women who taught there also desired the religious life and became the first novices of her new community. In 1877 they made their vows and Mother Cabrini was named superior. On the advice of the Holy Father, she spread her congregation to the US.
